definitely be a favorite at a dinner party. Buying noodles rather than making your own will cut your prep time in half and the sauce is all made in one thick pot (or казан in Russian). After trying Lagman with many different types of noodles, the Udon Noodles (which I get from an Asian store called Fubon in Portland Oregon) were my favorite by far! They are pre-made so all you need to do is add boiling water to them and let them warm for about one minute and then they are ready to eat! This is a very easy dish to make and i'll bet you have most, if not all, the ingredients in your kitchen!
Ingredients for Lagman:
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 pound of beef
1 medium onion or 1/2 of a large onion
2 potatoes1 tomato
1 large carrot or 2 small carrots
3 large bell peppers
3 cloves of garlic
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)
dried crushed Chili peppers (to taste)
Udon noodles
Have a boiled tea pot full of hot water ready
How to Cook Lagman:
1. wash and cube the meat, bell peppers, potatoes, tomato, and onion. Grate the carrot and either mince the garlic or use a garlic press to squish it into small bits.
2. warm the vegetable oil in a thick pot. Test the oil with a small piece of meat. If the oil bubbles around the meat, add the rest of the meat into the pot and wait for it to brown stirring every few minutes.
3. When the meat has browned, add the onion and stir every few minutes until it caramelizes.
4. Next, add the garlic to the pot.
5. After about one minute of cooking the beef with onion and garlic, add in the grated carrot and let the carrot soften.
6. Next, add the potatoes, tomatoes, and bell peppers, fill the pot with boiled water, and stir. I switched pots at this time because I like to add a lot of water into the sauce (so I have more water to drown my noodles in when I'm done) and this pot is pretty small!
7. Salt, pepper, and spice to taste. I usually turn off the stove at this point and let my potatoes soften slowly in the hot Lagman because otherwise they overcook.
8. Now all that's left to do is warm those Noodles and serve! Enjoy!
